Spring Birdie quilt is a variation of the Sparrow quilt pattern from Pen and Paper Patterns. Heres the pattern in my shop. Currently it is a top seller in the shop. I’ve seen several quilts on pinterest, I’m sure you have as well. Check out my shop here. https://www.etsy.com/shop/SimplylovelythingsCo?
I choose a pastel palette because I was heading to a late winter show and thought everyone would be ready for the happy palette. This was a curated bundle I put together with some fabrics from the shop.
As you can see I didn’t completely follow directions. I had intended on making the pattern exactly as you see it but when I had 8 birdies done it was a lot of birds! I think the colors I choose made it feel busy. So to offset and add interest I actually did some blank solid white rectangles in place of the birdie. I also did 1.5”sashing and stones, cut 2” for finished 1.5”. I left the sashing the same background white and the stones the prints .
Currently the quilt is 4 blocks across and 5 down. I might add one more row. I think the solid white rectangles also give the ability to do some interesting machine quilting in that space. I think it allows your eye to rest as well.
Here is the kit and pattern in my shop. I have very few bundles because I’ve been to 2 shows and its done very well at the shows. You can also just buy the fat quarters. This pastel bundle would look great doing Summer Moon Block of the month quilt.
I had so much fabric in this bundle I even made a small lap quilt. This pattern is Homespun from Modernly Morgan. Her patterns have been quite popular in the shop as well. Here is what I have from Modernly Morgan.
I hope you enjoyed this project. I cant wait to quilt in. I think it would be fun to do some rulerwork on this quilt, maybe in the blank spaces and something simple over the birdie block.
Now go sew something amazing and whatever you do have great day ! Thanks for stopping in! Colleen
